arf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Meet Mia, a gentle 10-year-old Maltese mix with a soft spirit and a heart full of devotion. Weighing about 30 pounds, she has the perfect blend of relaxed companionship and surprising spryness. Mia has spent the last six years in a loving home after being abandoned during a difficult life transition, and through it all, she has remained sweet, loyal, and deeply bonded to her people. Mia is fully housetrained and has wonderful manners in the home. She enjoys having the run of the house, has no destructive tendencies, and is happiest lounging near her favorite person. While she may hop up on the furniture if invited, what she truly wants is simple closeness and comfort. She lives indoors and thrives in a calm, predictable environment. Naturally a bit shy, Mia can be skittish with new people and needs a little time to build trust. Once she feels safe, her affectionate and gentle personality truly shines. She is food motivated, which makes building that bond even easier, and she responds beautifully to patience and kindness. Mia has lived peacefully without showing aggression and would do especially well in a quieter home. She would make a wonderful companion for a senior or someone looking for a steady, loving presence by their side. Though she enjoys relaxing afternoons, Mia still has a spark of energy and appreciates short walks and light activity. She offers the best of both worlds: a calm, loyal friend who is content to lounge with you, yet lively enough to brighten your daily routine. Mia is ready for a forever home where she can feel secure, cherished, and loved for the rest of her golden years Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
