o;s needs above their own, and Bada Bing! What a great dog! Carmela has lived in a caring home since she was a puppy…loved and vetted regularly, and it shows. Her family had a baby a few years ago and the little one has a severe allergy to dogs. They thought they could make it work and have a system of gates for separation to keep their daughter’s allergies under control. But now there is a mobile toddler in the house…one who loves dogs and is obsessed with being with Carmela. And Carmela is a people person who loves to be close, so the separation is hard on her. Though not ideal, and definitely heartbreaking, the only solution is to let Carmela go to a home where she can be the center of attention. Making this choice is never easy, though it is easy to see it is one made out of love. With her sweet caramel coat, and undeniable bulldog edginess, Carmela is definitely mob material to the max (uh, look at those googly eyes! Who are they looking at?!)! She is super feminine but also has BDE (big dog energy) and has a sliver of a quintessential Jersey Italian mom, knowing food as love and never afraid to give honest, unsolicited (bulldog) feedback. And with her natural bobtail and EPIC underbite, how can anyone not fall in love? Carmela is shy and can be a bit nervous in new situations. But as a LOVER, she warms up quickly to people and is very affectionate, cuddly, and loving. She is playful, loves toys, and has a moderate energy level…she can go on longer hikes/walks but most days she is content to go in the yard to sniff on her own terms. Carmela might get the zoomies in the evening and play with her toys for a good 5-10 minutes before retiring to the couch in typical bulldog fashion. Carmela is (surprisingly) not gassy. For real. We don’t believe it either! She is great in the car, even on longer road trips (uh, a princess has to sleep, you know?) but spends most of her time on the couch. She also loves following her people around the house to supervise (every crew needs supervision) and is a PERFECT age! A mature dog means no accidents, no chewed slippers or remote controls. Our Carmela isn’t famous for her hair, nails, or jewels. But she is famous for stealing objects that are not her toys (though never chewing or destroying). She will steal your heart (and your socks)! Her favorite thing is to steal a sock out of the hamper, get in her human’s bed, and wait to be discovered. She has personality to spare and will occasionally bark at inanimate objects such as scarecrows and snowmen. And like a typical bully, if she doesn’t want to go on a walk with you, she will sit down and refuse to go anywhere but home. Whadayagunnado? Carmela has never lived with other animals but has peacefully co-existed with a relative’s dog for short stretches, and cat tested fantastically. Because of Carmela’s age, what her life has been like, and the stable and loving home she is losing, we feel she would thrive as an only dog with lots of attention (though would likely be a terrific co-exister with a compatible dog or a kitty sibling). She has been playful and appropriate with older children, but the little littles make her nervous. This gangster of love has a desire for consistency and security and just needs a Tony, Meadow, and AJ all her own! Capisce? Carmela Soprano’s top 3 priorities: 1. A family who LOVES to snuggle! Carmela loves having a comfy couch and snuggling in bed would literally complete her…this gal will sleep on top of you if you let her! 2. A family who understands bulldogs. Carmela has a classic bulldog personality, which is unique and quirky and spectacular! She would do best with people who appreciate and understand bulldogs! 3. A family who isn’t fussy about a little drool amongst friends, and one who wants a really great pup.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
