Great Pyrenees Dogs For Adoption in Minneapolis, MN, USA

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees. Bella is an 8-month-old Great Pyrenees who's beautiful inside and out. At around 70 lbs and still growing, this gentle giant is very much a puppy at heart and is expected to

be a large, majestic girl when fully grown. After spending much of her life tied outside and later in a crowded living situation, Bella truly appreciates having her own space where she can rest undisturbed. She adjusted quickly to foster life and settled in beautifully, learning the rhythms of home life. She is almost entirely potty-trained and she does well in her crate. While she can be a little unsure when her person leaves her line of sight, she is learning to self-soothe and settle independently with time and patience. Bella enjoys slow, sniffy walks (about two 30-minute walks a day) and short bursts of backyard play. A fenced yard will be required for her future home, ideally a 5-foot fence. Due to her size and breed traits, she cannot live in homes with shared walls (no apartments/townhomes). Bella loves games of chase, tug, and gentle wrestling, though she’s just as happy flopping dramatically on the floor when she decides playtime is over. She is curious and friendly with other dogs and children, though she has not met cats yet, so a proper introduction would be recommended there. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, soft-hearted Great Pyrenees who just wants a safe home, steady routine, and someone to love, Bella might be your perfect match. If you are interested in Bella, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
