ol after I came to them from a bad situation. Animal control started me on the road to health and happiness, and Mostly Mutts has continued that good care! I’m in a wonderful foster home now and looking forward to being a part of a wonderful adoptive family soon! I’ve got some scars, and healed wounds from my past, but it doesn’t bother me and I hope you won’t mind either. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I haven’t met other dogs at Mostly Mutts yet, so let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I met my foster’s nephew who was younger and really liked him, though when he got excited, I did too, so perhaps kids a bit older would be best. Let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a super sweet girl with a big, happy heart - truly a loving girl who will happily stay by your side for attention, playtime, and lots of joyful moments together. I can be a little jumpy as well as full of wiggles, cuddles, and tail wags! When it was bath time at the shelter, I treated it like my most important spa appointment, standing calm and patient the whole time while I leaned right into my bather because I love being close. And once I was all clean, I gave lots of kisses! My foster reports that they love me and that I’m a great dog – I hope you think so, too! / My energy level is 6-8, so I’ll want a family that will be active with me. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: In my foster home, I’ve shown that I know the ‘here’, ‘come’, ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘off’, ‘drop it’, and ‘leave it’ commands! Let's continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs! / My crate manners are good in my foster home, and I see my crate as a safe place. I’ll run to it if I am afraid. / My potty manners have been good in my foster home other than if I’m not let out of my crate in time. I’ve learned the schedule here and am doing well now. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I’m a true lover of people and can’t wait for lots of fun adventures with you! I love going on walks, playing fetch, and spending time outside with my family burning off some energy. But don’t worry, I’m just as much of a cuddle bug, ready for an evening movie on the couch with you and soaking up rubs. Giving and receiving affection makes me the happiest girl! / Though vacuuming and mopping don’t bother me at all, some other loud noises do frighten me as does the dark. I believe I’ll adjust to these once I’m settled in my new home. I’m not a fan of being alone a lot and when we’re on walks, if other dogs bark at me – hold on to my leash so I don’t bolt away. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I have moderate tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. As stated above, I’ve got some old wounds and scars. I am looking for a wonderful home with loving family for life that will treasure me! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
