are perfect for the right someone. Our goal is to match each dog with the home that fits them best and each home with the dog that will sing to your heart. Ready to adopt? Complete an application at Application – Carolina Poodle Rescue Date into Rescue:1/10/26 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release to a North Carolina shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Jobie is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Jobie is an English Sheepdog / Standard Poodle. He is a BIG dog. He is not hypoallergenic and does shed. Weight: 92 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $699 Fence needed? Yes, Jobie needs somewhere to stretch his big legs when he's not on hikes or walks or pulling a pumpkin cart. What kind of home would be best for me? Jobie is the kind of dog who wants to be right in the middle of the action - running, playing, and then leaning in close for attention. He does wonderfully with other dogs and is just as happy making canine friends as he is greeting new people. Because of his size and strength, Jobie is best suited for a very active owner who can keep up with his energy and confidently handle him. He loves active adults. Due to Jobie's size and strong personality, we will not place him in a home with kids living in the home or as frequent (more than 5 times per year) visitors. Jobie has been tested with cats and thinks they are simply fun! What is my personality like? Jobie is a big, lovable 90-pound doodle with an even bigger heart. We don't know much about Jobie's life pre-rescue. We know that his owner lost their housing and had no choice but to surrender him to a shelter. They told the shelter that Jobie isn't a fit for a home with small children, that he loves chewing toys and that he can resource guard food in a home with other pets. We only know the Jobie we've observed and grown to love in rescue. We have seen some food guarding, with Jobie, we simply feed him in his crate and leave him alone while he eats. When he is done eating, we remove him from his crate and only THEN do we pick up the bowl. With this method we have had no issues with Jobie. We also "trade" with him. A treat is tossed out of the crate to remove him from the crate and while he gets the treat we grab the bowl. Overflowing with joy and affection, Jobie lives for playtime, movement, and soaking up as much love as he can get from his people. He is highly motivated by both treats and affection, which will make training a fun and rewarding experience for him. Jobie knows sit, down, paw and could very easily be taught wait/stay and come. He could use some work on his leash manners, as he can pull when excited and doesn’t always realize just how strong he is. At the end of the day, Jobie is a sweet, enthusiastic love bug who simply wants attention, companionship, and a family ready to embrace all 90 pounds of him. With the right home, he’ll be a loyal, joyful companion who brings endless smiles and affection. Jobie can have opinions and in an environment that is overwhelming Jobie can become stressed. Jobie handles most stressful environments well and can mold wonderfully into many different challenges but like any person or dog Jobie has his limits and will stand up for himself if he feels cornered or scared. Jobie is looking for a fun and playful environment but not one that is going to stress him out. This is why children are not recommended for Jobie's home life. How do I act when I first meet new people? Jobie loves everyone and everything and if you bring treats - he loves you even more! Jobie walks into most situations confident and friendly, he has shown a sweet and loving side but also a dog that can and will stand up from himself. Jobie is not recommended for first time dog owners. Other tips and tidbits: We don't have any paperwork on Jobie pre-rescue. Based on his overall health and condition he is estimated at 3 years young. We celebrate his birthday 12/30/2022. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive — and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
