und foxy little charmer who is proof that great things really do come in small packages! This adorable Chihuahua/Rat Terrier looking mix has the most expressive face you've ever seen on a dog, and when you talk to her, she tilts her head to the side like she is hanging on your every word and genuinely trying to understand you. Kit is a shy girl who has been quietly blossoming in her foster home, and the transformation has been beautiful to watch. She is housetrained, leash trained, travels well in the car, and has claimed her crate as her own cozy safe space that she happily runs to when she wants to feel secure. At just 1.5 years old and with a low-to-medium energy level, she is perfectly content soaking up sun on the porch, going for leisurely walks, and cuddling up with her favorite person. Oh, and treats. Kit is very, very enthusiastic about treats. She hasn't learned any formal commands yet, which means her new home gets the fun of teaching her! She is clearly intelligent and tuned in to the people around her, so training should be a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Kit would do best as the star of the show in a calm, patient home where she can continue building her confidence at her own pace. She would love being an only dog or having just one larger canine companion, and a quieter adult household where she feels safe and cherished would truly help her shine. This sweet little girl has so much love to give once she trusts you, and she is absolutely worth the wait. To find out more about adopting Kit, text AARF at 931-260-8018 or visit .aarf-tn today! Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
