Description

Mutt Dogs For Adoption in Brooklyn Center, MN, USA

Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi. I’m Beef Wellington. Yes, like the fancy dish. No, I will not be served with potatoes — but I will sit very nicely for treats.

I’m a 4-year-old, 60-pound, beefy pit bull with a big block head and an even bigger heart. Animal control picked me up in St. Paul, and for a minute there it looked like my future involved a cement kennel and a chorus of yappy puppies. But then my foster family swooped in and busted me out so I could start my new career in rescue life. Let me tell you — living in a real home instead of on cold concrete? 10/10. Highly recommend. Foster Mom calls me “the sweetest blockhead,” and honestly… she’s not wrong. I’m what you might call a beefy Velcro ladies’ man. I love people. Did I mention I love people? Because I LOVE people. My favorite place in the entire world is wherever my humans are — sitting with them, laying on them, leaning on them, breathing the same air as them. If you move, I move. Congratulations, we are now a team. I like other dogs too! I’m a social guy. I just prefer they don’t try to eat my food. I mean… who likes sharing snacks? Let’s be reasonable. Cats? Absolutely not. In my professional opinion, they are chew toys with opinions. I’m house trained and potty trained — a true gentleman. When my foster family goes to a mysterious place called “work” (about 9 hours a day), I hang out in my kennel. I might bark at first to express my deep emotional disappointment about being left behind, but eventually I sigh dramatically and take a nap. Sometimes I get a little bored and look for something to chew, but give me a good bone and I’m golden. On walks, I can pull on the leash — I just get excited about life and want to see everything immediately. Car rides? Oh, I LOVE car rides. I show my appreciation by trying to be as physically close to you as possible the entire time. You’re welcome. I can be a little protective of my people — they’re my whole world, after all. My foster family thinks I’d do great with kids, especially dog-savvy ones. I’m a solid beefcake, so I might accidentally knock over someone very small just by loving them enthusiastically. Energy-wise, I’m moderately active — happy to go for walks and adventures — but I’m equally happy flopping on the floor for a nap with my humans. Truly, my favorite activity is simply being with you. Oh — one more thing about me. When I came into rescue, I had a broken foot that just wouldn’t heal. The vets tried their best, but in the end the foot had to go. So now I’m learning to live life as a tripod. Three legs, same big heart. And honestly? I’m doing great. I still walk, explore, cuddle, and live my best beefy life. It hasn’t slowed me down much — it just makes me a little more unique. So my daily routine looks something like this: Eat. Nap. Love my people. Repeat. And if you ask me… that’s a pretty perfect life. So… are you my forever? Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $425.00

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
