but she is on the mend and feeling better each day. Despite her the horrible life she was subjected to, she is a sweet and kind girl who loves all humans. Jewel brings a sweet, loving, and super fun energy to your home, she has such a great sense of humor and will keep you laughing! With a big heart, and a desire to be the center of your world, she makes you feel so special, whether it's joyfully greeting you when you first get up in the morning, she celebrates the start of everyday, or energetically greets you when you come home, or being you super cozy cuddling bug enjoying some down time. Jewel is crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night. This is helping with her with potty training, and it has become a place she chooses to go to whenever she wants. Jewel is finding her confidence. She does well with other dogs in the park or on walks, but inside the home she prefers to be the queen of the castle. She can be a bit jealous of other dogs in the home. She walks well on a leash without reactivity, and is social with other dogs in other settings. While Jewel enjoys leisurely strolls and exploring the backyard, she is just as content relaxing indoors and soaking up all the cozy moments life has to offer. She is not a high energy dog. Chilling and relaxing are her vibe. Jewel gets along well with adults and older children, making her a wonderful addition to a family searching for a fun loving mature canine friend. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and had a recent surgery to remove tumors (benign), and another surgery scheduled for the end of March to remove the remaining tumors. She does very well with the cone, having down time in her crate to heal, and doesn't bother her incisions once the cone is removed. She has some skin allergies the have been successfully managed with medication. Her hips are not great. She gets around just fine but she has the hips of a senior dog so should limit stairs and too much jumping around. Jewel has been very well cared for throughout her time in foster care and is eager and more than ready for her next step in finding her forever home. If you’re looking for a truly special girl with a big personality to share your home and heart with, Jewel could be the perfect match! Please reach out if you’d like to learn more about this wonderful full of life companion or arrange a meet and greet. Let’s help Jewel find the loving home she truly deserves! Jewel is vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. Her adoption fee is $300 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
