Carol is a breeder release girl who will be turning 6 years young this June, and she’s just beginning her glow-up era as a cherished house pet. Think gentle soul, soft eyes, and a heart that quietly attaches itself to her people like Velcro made of love. Carol has an extremely sweet disposition and prefers to keep her humans within visual range at all times. If you sit down, expect a warm little presence leaning into you or claiming your lap as prime real estate. If you walk away, she’ll likely trail behind like a polite, fluffy shadow. At night, Carol clocks out from shadow duty and tucks herself into a dog bed on the bedroom floor, perfectly content to snooze nearby. She’s also discovering that she has… opinions. Specifically about strangers walking past the house. With encouragement from her foster sister, Carol has recently joined the Neighborhood Watch Bark Patrol. A few more things about this lovely lady: Fully potty trained Very gentle, dainty eater who prefers dining solo Treat enthusiast who recently discovered snacks are one of life’s great joys Shy with new people, but warms up quickly once she knows you’re kind Gets along well with other dogs Still learning about harnesses and leashes (currently not impressed) she does require a fenced yard Would love another dog in the home to help continue showing her the ropes of pet life Carol has her initial vet assessment on March 10th, and she will still need her spay and dental, but she’s already proving what a wonderful companion she’ll be. This girl doesn’t ask for much. A soft bed, a gentle home, maybe a doggy mentor, and a person she can follow around like a tiny, devoted assistant. If you’re looking for a quiet, loving little companion who will make every room feel warmer just by being in it, Carol may be your girl. Apply to adopt Carol and let this sweet soul start the next chapter of her life right where she belongs: with her people. .dakotadachshundrescue/info/adoption Carol is 5 years yound, she weighs 16 pounds, her adoption fee is $350 plus sales tax $15.75=$365.75 My adoption fee help with my vetting needs such as HW test, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, spay, dental and microchipping.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
