Coy #2 | 10-Month-Old Mixed Breed | Built Low, Loves Big Coy is a 10-month-old, 40-pound mixed-breed sweetheart with a soft white coat, a big personality, and an adorably unique build— think big dog who’s just a little short in the leg department. Coy quickly becomes everyone’s favorite thanks to his easygoing, affectionate nature and his constant desire to be close to his people. Coy is almost fully house trained and usually lets you know he needs to go out by standing by the door. On leash he’s a fun walking companion, though he may pull a little at times—mostly because he’s eager to keep up with the other dogs who may be moving faster than his little legs can carry him. He absolutely loves other dogs and thrives in their company. Coy enjoys romping, wrestling, and making friends wherever he goes. His enthusiasm can sometimes show up as a bark when new dogs arrive in a space, but it’s more of an excited “let’s play!” announcement than anything else. At home he has had positive interactions with all the dogs in his foster household and even shares space peacefully with cats, whom he mostly ignores. Coy hasn’t met children yet, but given his sweet, gentle nature, we believe he would likely do well with kids of any age. When left home alone for a few hours—“alone” meaning no humans, as he always has canine companions around—Coy has been a perfect angel. He can be crated if needed, though he doesn’t require it. If he is crated, he may voice a brief protest at first, but he settles in quickly. Given the choice, he much prefers being free to relax and hang out with his dog friends. Coy responds well to structure and gentle boundaries. If he ever realizes he’s done something he shouldn’t, his immediate move is to flop onto his back, show his belly, and ask for forgiveness in the form of belly rubs. Coy has a medium energy level and is happy with a couple of walks or play sessions each day, after which he’s more than content to relax and cuddle. He loves toys, chewing bones, and especially a good game of tug-of-war with stuffed animals or rope toys. He also loves a good “sploot” and, despite being 40 pounds, Coy is firmly convinced he is a lap dog and will happily climb right on top of you so he can be as close as possible. Coy’s ideal home would include a playful canine sibling and a family who appreciates a loving, affectionate dog who wants to be part of everything. Above all, Coy is looking for a home that will adore him as much as he will adore them—and if belly rubs are part of the deal, even better. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $450. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here. Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
