Bogart "Bogie" is a 2 -year-old Rotsky (Rotweiler-Husky) who adores people and other dogs and would love a home with both and some play space. He's relationship-oriented more than food-oriented, with a silly personality that's good for laughs. He likes to take leash walks, play with other dogs and clock-off dog-duty with a long nap in his crate. He goes through bones pretty quickly, and antler bones are his most favorite way to self-entertain. He almost falls over backward in bliss when being groomed and gives no resistance to bathtimes. Not super-aware of where his body is in space - he can be clumsy and is still growing into his elbows. Bogart's not a barker, even when playing with other dogs, but he will respond to sympathy talk in the same tone as the speaker, and always replies with an affirmative "woo-woo-woo" when asked if he'd like to go on a pottywalk. Bogie failed his farm test in September: he likes to chase things, which is why he can't stay with us, though we all thought about it until the prey drive showed up and ruined our plans. So a home with cats or small animals isn't going to be a good fit. Bogart almost certainly came from an abusive home, though to meet him now you couldn't tell. He has recovered well and generally expects to be adored by all. Neither storms nor loud noises bother Bogie. He oversaw a home construction site last summer and stood patiently by for foster mom to cut him some untreated chestnut wood chew chips with the loud chop saw. Fourth of July fireworks were also not an issue. He's a 62 pound, healthy and curious young fella who would like more opportunities to play than foster mom can give him. A home with kids would be a good match, as he has a lot of games to show them. Contact me today at walton5260gmail to learn more about entertaining Bogart! All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at petsmpravl for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
