fill out an Adoption Application. If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application. Meet Carni! This sweet girl came to us from the streets of Tijuana, Mexico. She was rescued by a citizen who realized she was pregnant and about to give birth during the Christmas Holiday. They helped her by getting a little area preped for her in the patio. Wish they had seeked help immediatelly so we could have spayed aborted and save her poor pups from being born into our current pet overpopulation countries where is extremely hard to find homes for dogs. That was not the case so now they needed help. We were contacted early february for help. We were not in a position to help but found a wonderful foster family who took Carmi and her 7 pups right before Valentines day. Carmi has been spayed and fully vetted in san diego a very healthy girl! Since then, we have now moved Carmi and the pups to distrubute them to give the foster family a much deserved break. We are desperately looking for fosters for Carmi and some of her pups. Separtly, its best the pups are not fostered or adopted with litter mates and mama Carmi needs a BREAK from her little mini Me babies. As of 3/20 she is staying at casa de arwob with several of the other arwob dogs and cats. We have realized Carmi has a bit of prey drive ei cats/chickens/probably mice, etc she is VERY interested in the noises or fast moves SO we need a home with NO other creatures, dogs are the exception, she is wonderful with dogs of all sizes, sex, age, Carmi is crate, house, potty trained. She DOES get car sick and we are hoping she gets desentized soon as she is starting to go on car trips to the dog park which she loves the dog park. Carmi is VERY people and dog friendly both on/off leash and enjoys socializing. We have realized giving her meclizine (OTC pill for nausea) 30-70min before a drive works wonders. She does well on leash walks and none reactive to dogs or people. She is still a puppy herself and has nEVER had a family so basic dog training for sit, stay, etc would be amazing for her. She is not a big barker but can sound the alarm if something is going on, she would be a great dog for a retiree, working adults or even family with children as her original foster has 4 small young children who adored her and she adored them. Help us find a foster or adopter for carmi since she is staying at casa de arwbo 3/20 and with cats here she can't stay longer, desperately need assistance for her and fostering is a great way to see if she is the right fit for you! Contact us or submit an application online TODAY at ARWOB thanks! If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
