nate, and elegant senior girl who is looking for a peaceful home where she can relax and be loved. She enjoys a slower pace of life and is happiest spending her days napping in a cozy spot, relaxing in the sunshine, or going for short walks. She also rides well in the car and enjoys quiet outings. Sangria truly loves people and has never met a stranger. She happily greets visitors and thrives on human attention. Her tall, graceful build makes her the perfect height for easy pets and gentle scratches, which she soaks up with enthusiasm. She enjoys being talked to and will respond with an excited wagging tail. One of her most charming quirks is her love for her pearl necklace — when asked if she wants to wear it, she will patiently stand and wait while it is put on. She has wonderful house manners. Sangria is house trained, walks nicely on leash, and is a polite and easy house guest. She prefers resting on her own comfortable bed and has not required crating in her foster home. Sangria lives with children between the ages of 4 and 11 and does very well with them. She enjoys gentle affection and quiet cuddle time. Because she is an older dog who prefers calm interactions, she would do best with respectful children who understand not to engage in rough play or jump on her. While Sangria can see other dogs on walks without issue, she prefers to keep her distance and would be happiest as the only dog in the home where she can enjoy being the center of attention. Cats are unknown. Sangria is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm and is also being treated for a bladder infection. Her future adopter will need to be committed to continuing her medical care and providing a low-stress environment while she completes treatment. Her ideal home would be one that offers a soft place to nap, short daily walks, time outdoors in a secure yard, and plenty of companionship. Sangria is a very loving and easygoing dog who is simply looking for a comfortable, stable home where she can feel safe and adored. If you are looking for a loyal, gentle companion who will bring calm and affection into your life, Sangria may be the perfect match. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
