t a baby and am so happy to be in a great foster home while I wait for my new family to come and adopt me – hopefully very soon! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I liked the dogs I met at the shelter, so I would likely enjoy another dog in my new home if you have a nice doggie that would like a puppy friend. Let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids in my foster home, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me or that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: The two words that describe me best? Adorable and fun! I am a spunky puppy with playful energy and a heart full of love. I was a brave boy for my shelter bath – sitting calmy, even for my ear cleaning, though I voiced a bit of displeasure during it, because … well … I have an opinion – lol. Happy and loving, I am going to be a great companion to a lucky family! / Energy level: 4-6 currently, though this could change as I grow up. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I know the ‘sit’ command and walk pretty well on my leash in the yard for potty breaks. I’m looking for a family that will teach me everything I need to know to grow up and become a wonderful adult dog - so get ready for some training with your new best friend. Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s continue my training together. / I don’t like going in the crate, but I am learning. / I’m just a baby, so I’m working on my potty manners - my foster takes me out approx. hourly during the day and after playtime, so just know that you will need to finish my potty training in our yard. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I am an equal fan of playtime with my toys and cuddling with my people. Curling up for a comfy nap after a great play session? The day can’t get any better than that! / Except for that pesky crate, I can’t think of things I don’t like yet since I’m so young, though like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I've started my puppy shots, but you will have to finish these for me as I grow. I’m also micro-chipped and neutered. If you’re ready for the fun and excitement of having a puppy as well as the training commitment, then let’s meet! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
