so hard to bring him back here, but we know someone who loves a snuggle bug and companion. He adores human interaction and any chance he gets he'll come sit right beside you to snuggle and hopefully get a little scratch. One of his cutest tricks is that if you sit and crouch down by him he'll squeeze his little head in the crook of your arm. It's so sweet. He will find the perfect home with someone who works from home or is retired because he likes having companionship. He gets along with any dog, but really prefers human interaction. He's quick to fall in love with his humans. Diego did not have a single potty accident in our home and instinctively knew that outside time was the right time to relieve himself. He eagerly accepted all the training treats for a good potty outside. He's such a smart little guy. Diego even learned how to use our doggy door within the first two days of being in our home. He enjoys leisurely leashed walks around the neighborhood: taking him time to smell lots of plants as he walks beside you. Diego has wonderful leash skills and doesn't usually pull. A little walk around the block really fills his bucket. He even enjoys long days in the backyard if you happen to be gardening. He'll find a shady spot to relax while still having the ability to see you. Diego knows to be patient when his meals are being prepared and doesn't get jealous if some little doggy friend wants the rest of his leftovers. He's just a chill pup who doesn't get jealous. We worked to teach him how to sleep in a crate at night and while he doesn't love it, the amount of time he whines now is fairly minimal. I bet within another week of consistent training and encouraging treats, he'll be very happy sleeping in a crate at night with no whining at all. Once he is asleep, he does sleep soundly all night without a peep until you're ready to take him out. This precious pup is incredibly sweet, snuggly and smart. He knows how to sit, will give his little paw to put his harness on, and will follow you as you call out. He is a quick learner and i'm sure would have a lot of fun learning new tricks. I hope he's the one you're looking for beacuse he deserves a loving home where he can have lots of snuggles and kisses.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
