cines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Good with kids; good with other dogs with slow introductions; not good with cats Meet Diamond — Playful, Loving, and Ready for Her Forever Family! Some dogs sparkle, but Diamond truly shines. She truly lives up to her name- her joyful spirit, affectionate heart, and playful personality light up every room she enters. From the moment she left the shelter and happily hopped into the car, she was ready for her next adventure. She settled into her foster home as if she’d always belonged, but now it's time for her to find her forever. Diamond is easy to please and would do well in many different home environments. While she would love a fenced yard where she can show off her zoomies, she would also thrive in a condo with several daily walks. She’s happiest when she’s spending time with her people and being included in the fun. She strikes the perfect balance between independent and Velcro dog. She’s perfectly content relaxing in her crate or snoozing around the house while you’re away, but nothing beats the full-body wag she gives when you come home. She’ll make you feel like the most important person on earth (because to her, you are!). Although her favorite daily activity is nap time, Diamond loves going on her daily walks and patrolling the neighborhood (because she’s a little nosey like that!). She gets excited for every outing and never misses an opportunity to meet new people. She even loves kids, bonus points if they giver her pets and belly rubs! She’s also smart, food-motivated, and eager to learn new things, which makes training fun and rewarding (don’t we all work better for treats?). Diamond would love to be your one and only, but she also enjoys playing with her doggy friends. She is an enthusiastic player, so she would do best with a confident, easygoing adult dog who appreciates her energetic play style. When she’s not exploring, Diamond loves stretching out in a sunny spot, cuddling with her people, or simply being part of family life. Whether it’s a walk, a cuddle on the couch, or just hanging out together, she’s happiest when she’s included. Diamond is a true gem- the perfect combination of playful, affectionate, intelligent, and goofy. She has endless love to give and an infectious enthusiasm for life. She’s ready to bring laughter, adventure, and unconditional love to the lucky family she can finally call her own. Diamonds are forever, and Diamond is ready to be someone’s forever best friend. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
