l in love. Notice anything a little EXTRA special? She has heterochromia in her mesmerizing right eye! It's a rare benign condition in which the iris is two different colors. In Marlee's case if blue on the top fading into brown on the bottom. Marlee came into rescue as an owner surrender from a shelter in Texas, and she’s ready to find her forever home! At just 3 months old and 15 pounds, she’s a playful, happy puppy who wants nothing more than to be by your side. Marlee is everything you’d expect from a puppy—she loves toys, treats, chew bones, and playing with dogs of all sizes. She does great with kids and is friendly with cats (though she may try to convince them to play, too!). She’s incredibly people-oriented and will happily follow you around wherever you go. Marlee is doing well with potty and crate training and is very smart and treat-motivated, making her a joy to train. She’s eager to please and responds well to redirection. Marlee is also very social—she walks nicely on a leash and rides well in the car. She can be a bit vocal when she’s not a fan of something (like settling into her crate at first) or when she wants attention, so apartment living may not be the best fit for her. Marlee would thrive in a home with another dog, kids to play with, or as a devoted sidekick soaking up all your attention. However she fits into your life, she’s ready for a lifetime of love, fun, and adventure. If you’re looking for a sweet, smart, playful and adorable companion—Marlee is your girl! Please apply at .HavenAnimalRescueNebraska ADOPTION DONATION: $450 *ALL DOGS MUST BE INSIDE COMPANION ANIMALS! They must all be trained with positive reward based training and all are all up to date with vaccinations, altered (Marlee is not yet spayed but local adoption is preferred as she will be at our expense when at least 6 months of age), microchipped, HeartWorm tested, and on preventatives. PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
