amp;rsquo;s curious, playful, and also very much a man of leisure. He loves his toys, is a dedicated sniffer on walks, an observant gentleman in the yard, and truly enjoys his uninterrupted downtime. And if there’s one word that captures Moose perfectly, it’s Zen. He has the most amazing calm, peaceful spirit. Moose had a rough start in life. He was found as a stray on the streets of San Jose with an old injury to one of his back legs that appeared painful and uncomfortable. Thankfully, his life took a wonderful turn. An orthopedic surgeon confirmed that the fracture was old and had already healed. With daily joint supplements, good care, and lots of TLC, Moose is now zooming around the yard and showing absolutely no signs of pain. When Moose first came into our care, he was shy around new people, especially men. But this amazing boy has learned to trust—and watching his confidence grow has been incredibly rewarding. Today, he welcomes people with a much more open heart and is more playful and joyful than ever. His beautiful skin and healthy coat are also a wonderful reflection of how far he has come. Moose is wonderful with dogs and would do great with both small and large canine companions. He has also been comfortable around children and would do best with calm, gentle kids who are respectful of pets. Moose passed his cat test with flying colors and is safe and comfortable around dog-savvy cats. Of course, like many dogs, if a cat suddenly takes off running, Moose may be tempted to give chase—it’s simply his playful, curious dog nature. With appropriate introductions and supervision, however, he has shown that he can happily coexist with cats. He recently met alpacas, too, and was an absolute gentleman! Moose has been learning new and useful cues and skills so he can reach his full doggie potential and become the superstar he was always meant to be. His ideal home is one that will continue building his confidence and skills through positive reinforcement and force-free training. At around 2 years old, neutered, fully vaccinated, and 73 pounds of pure joy, Moose is ready for the next chapter of his life—a forever home where he can continue to blossom, play, explore, and simply be the wonderful, peaceful soul that he is. Moose is proof that with a little love, patience, and a second chance, a dog can truly bloom. ❤️ If you’d like to meet this special boy, please help us learn more about you and your household by filling out our online application: .tinyurl/AdoptMeNow

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
