mp;rsquo;m still a bit unsure about being at the shelter, the volunteers are taking the time to show me lots of love, so I know I am in a safe and caring place. Now, I am ready to find my new family, so – if you are looking for a lovable companion, plan to meet me soon, and let’s see if we are match for a great future together! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and liked them, so if you have a dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, but I do need some warmup time, so kids old enough to understand this please, perhaps 10+. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I was somewhat frightened when I first arrived, but I soon met some very kind people who were patient with me, sat with me and gave me time to feel comfortable. It has made all the difference and – the more time I spend in their care, the more my happy and loving nature emerges. The volunteers love my sweet personality and my fun demeanor – which is on full display once I know you are my friend. I DO have opinions and can give a pretty effective ‘side eye’. For instance, I loved the cuddles that accompanied my towel drying after my shelter bath, but made it clear I was no fan of having my face and ears cleaned just yet, and leashing is a little bit of a struggle for me with so many different volunteers. I’m cute and friendly once I’m comfortable with you and am your best friend in the making! / Energy level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and look forward to learning a lot with my trainer! Check back soon to see what I've learned and let's continue my training with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs! / I’m doing well in my little room at the shelter. / I’ve been doing well with my potty habits on the shelter schedule, though I have marked some things, but this should improve since I have been neutered now and with some training. • LIKES/DISLIKES: Once I know you, I am all about giving and receiving affection. After a few minutes in the play yard, I was in the volunteer’s lap, ready to collect all the cuddles. Chest rubs are a favorite of mine and I can’t wait to discover the things we can do together when we are a family! / Just as at the shelter, I would not be happy about being rushed in my new home. I may need adjustment time, but – as the volunteers can attest – the period is pretty short, and I will reward you with loyalty and love. Also, like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I am looking for a loving family to give me a wonderful furever home! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
