ity. She brings so much happiness wherever she goes, and it's pretty impossible not to fall in love with her adorable grin. Taffy is a moderately active girl who would love a family that can keep up with her puppy energy. Taffy weighs about 17lbs and appears to be fully grown. Taffy was found with her brother and brought to a Central California animal shelter. Due to chronic overcrowding, the puppies found themselves on the euthanasia list. Her brother went to a different rescue, and Taffy came to us. She has blossomed in foster care and has gained lots of confidence. She went from an insecure girl to a brave and curious pup. Taffy is such a joy to be around, and she charms everyone she meets with her affectionate and goofy personality. She would thrive in a home with lots of people to love on her. Taffy loves playtime and has even convinced the older dogs in her foster home to romp around with her. She is a very food-motivated girl and will need a family who can continue working on her basic manners with her. She would be a great candidate for group training classes. Taffy loves other dogs and would absolutely love a playful doggie companion in her new home. She also may do well as an only dog with lots of opportunities to socialize with dog friends. We haven't seen Taffy around cats, but we think she could do well living with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction. Taffy can be jumpy/mouthy when excited, but could do well living with older kids who should can't knock over when excited. Taffy has been doing great with her housetraining using a dog door. She is still adjusting to being left in her crate, but she has done well being left in a contained outdoor area with the resident dogs for short periods. Taffy could do well living in an apartment with someone who has a schedule that would allow them to slowly acclimate her to being home alone in a crate. Taffy is such a sweet girl who deserves a family just as great as her. If you think that could be you, submit an application today! Taffy's adoption fee is $500. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
