ome for them. Please visit aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Murphy is not your average dog, and he would be the first to tell you so, if he weren't too busy being suspicious of that thing over there. This handsome 50-pound Weimaraner/Hound/Aussie mix is ten months old, incredibly smart, and absolutely hilarious in the most endearing way possible. He comes with a generous helping of quirks, a whole lot of heart, and enough personality to fill a room, even if he is currently hiding behind the couch, questioning whether that room is safe. Here is the thing about Murphy, though. Once he decides you have earned his trust, he is one hundred percent all in, and that kind of devotion is rare and wonderful. He knows several commands like sit, down, and place, walks and rides in the car like a perfect gentleman, and is crate trained, though he may serenade you with some soulful hound yodeling before he settles in for the night. He is housetrained too, though when Murphy says it is his time to go outside, he means right now. Murphy thrives with other dogs his size or larger, and honestly, a calm confident canine friend is probably one of the best things you could give him. Watching other dogs navigate the world is genuinely helpful for this boy. With other dogs around he really comes out of his shell. He respects cats, though a bold cat may need to set the record straight if they are the zoomy type. Due to a strong chase instinct he is not recommended for homes with chickens or small children. Murphy needs a patient, dog savvy owner who understands fearful dogs and finds the quirks more charming than exhausting. He would be a fantastic candidate for someone interested in training or dog sports, because underneath all that nervous energy lives a really brilliant dog just waiting for the right person to help him shine. If you think you might be Murphy's person, text AARF at 931-260-8018 to find out more! Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
