cie’s litter. Éclair developed on a slower timeline than her siblings but now our darling girl is ready to find her “happily ever after”. She has a zest for life and an unwavering desire to maximize FUN whenever possible A likely chiweenie mix, she is 6 lbs at 16 weeks old, so we believe she'll be about 12lbs when she's full grown. Eclair took a little longer than her siblings to develop physically and had some initial mobility challenge. She has improved greatly but she can be slightly unsteady on her four paws at times, but it doesn't prevent her from being a normal, joyful puppy. She has grown stronger over time (thanks to the early wrestling matches with her four siblings) and she is happiest when she can do zoomies in the back yard or race around the house like a Nascar driver at the Daytona 500. She might lose her footing now and then, but she gets right back up like nothing ever happened! Slick floors are a little scary for her but she is quickly learning how to pick herself up and move when she gets stuck. Eclair absolutely loves being held and cuddled, often offering sweet kisses of gratitude when in someone's arms. She has always been comforted by physical touch and has been extensively handled (and loved) from the moment she was born. She will fall fast asleep quickly and often sleeps deeply for long periods. After romping around in the yard and playing with her foster siblings she needs naps to recover and refuel. Her favorite ways to relax are gnawing on a bully stick in someone's lap or playing while staying close to (or on) her person. But when she's awake and can't see her foster mom, she plaintively whimpers to let her know she doesn't want to be left out! FOMO is a real thing for Eclair since she grew up with highly social siblings and is accustomed to having a playmate or some form of companionship most of the time. Eclair would thrive in a home with another dog who is grounded, highly tolerant of puppy antics and energy, and can teach her proper dog manners gently. She tries hard to befriend the bigger dogs with a sweet submissiveness but sometimes doesn't understand the cues to keep her distance. Eclair's sunny personality, love of life, and eagerness to join in the fun with other dogs and people make her a great companion. Her foster mom says she is very easy to care for and has been deeply moved by Eclair's determination to be a "normal" puppy like her siblings. Éclair may outgrow her mobility issues or she may always have some slight issues. Either way, she’s a precious little bundle of joy who steals away the hearts of everyone she meets. If you’d like to meet Éclair, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. If you'd like to adopt Éclair please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue. Éclair will go to her furever home on a trial basis. Her adoption will be finalized when all of the vetting covered by her adoption fee is completed. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current dogs and cats are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
