ur adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails) . Bucky | 2-Year-Old Shepherd Mix | Your cuddly, playful “little meatball” Bucky is a 2-year-old, 35 lb shepherd mix with a big heart and an even bigger love for people. This brown-and-black cutie is the total package—equal parts playful energy and snuggly companion. He’s very well house trained and will politely sit by the door to let you know when he needs to go outside. He also does wonderfully when left home alone (even uncrated!) for 6–8 hours—no accidents, no anxiety, just naps and chew time with his favorite bones. On walks, Bucky is enthusiastic and can pull a bit, and he does have some leash reactivity toward other dogs. With continued exposure, structure, and training, he’s already showing that he can improve. He’s smart, eager to learn, and already knows commands like sit, stay, come, off, and no. He responds well to both food and affection, making him a great candidate for continued training. Bucky is friendly with people of all ages and does great with kids, making him a wonderful family dog. He has had positive interactions with small and similarly sized dogs, though he hasn’t been around larger dogs much yet. He is not a good fit for a home with cats. This sweet boy has a medium-to-high energy level—he enjoys daily walks, playtime, and mental stimulation, but is just as happy to curl up next to you for cuddles afterward. He loves chewing on bones, going for walks, and being brushed (bath time, not so much!). Some of his adorable quirks include dancing, resting his head on you, offering his paw for attention, showing his belly for rubs, and even doing a little “army crawl.” Bucky thrives with structure and boundaries and is already doing well with guidance in his foster home. He can get a little excited and may jump on people, but he’s responsive to correction and continues to improve. His ideal home would be one where he gets a good balance of activity, love, and continued guidance—whether that’s with a family, a couple, or a single adopter. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and fun-loving companion who will keep you smiling and snuggled, Bucky might just be your guy. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $400. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
