ty! She’s a total kissy girl who loves to shower her people with affection, and her nose? Absolutely top-tier. Whether she’s sniffing out Easter eggs or exploring the backyard, she takes her beagle duties very seriously. And like any proud beagle, she’s got a full range of vocals, from curious “who’s that?” alerts to her signature ahwooo songs. She’s even learned to ring the bells on the back door to let you know when it’s time to go out! Playtime is Dixie’s favorite time. She’s always ready for tug, fetch, or zooming around the yard. Don’t let her size fool you, she’s fast, feisty, and can absolutely keep up with the big dogs, including her pitty foster brother, who she keeps on his toes! She’s wonderful with older kids, already spayed, and a perfect overnight buddy, she sleeps through the night like a champ. Dixie would do best in an active home that can match her energy and give her the playtime and attention she loves. Like any young pup, Dixie is still learning the ropes, and her quirks just add to her charm: * She’s a little sensitive about being picked up or spa days, but with patience and trust, she’s making great progress * She gets *very* excited about life (and sometimes that excitement shows!), but it just means she loves being part of the action * She has a cute little snore that lets you know she’s sleeping extra soundly * She’s a bit of a foodie and occasionally thinks everyone’s kibble is fair game * She may “announce” crate time at first, but settles in nicely once she’s comfortable Dixie is smart, expressive, and full of personality, she just needs a family willing to guide her as she continues to grow into her best self. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, slightly sassy companion who will keep you smiling every day, Dixie might just be your perfect match. You bring the forever home, she’ll bring the forever love. Dixie will be available for adoption on or after April 12, 2026 thru Paws Across Pittsburgh at .pawsacrosspittsburgh/adopt Paws Across Pittsburgh KL#16182

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
