ur dogs, please see HERE Age: approx. 18 months (as of 4.7.26) Weight: 32 pounds (as of 4.7.26) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet the captivating Koda—an 18 month old Kelpie mix with a unique, chocolate brown brindle coat that is sure to turn heads wherever he goes. True to his unique breed mix, Koda is very intelligent and has a fun-loving personality. In typical puppy fashion, he loves to play, befriends everyone he meets, and can’t wait to join you on all your adventures! In case you aren’t familiar with the Australian Kelpie (don’t worry, this volunteer wasn’t, either!) they are totally Type A personality: curious, driven and athletic. They’re also friendly but alert. While they’ll love joining you for Aunt Carol’s poolside BBQ, they also act like self-appointed security guards. If they hear something outside, they will let you know! Koda has made himself known as the perfect house guest with just three short weeks in foster care. He’s house trained, does well in the car, and while he prefers not to be crated and has a clean record (hasn’t destroyed anything) brushing up on crate training might be worthwhile. He walks calmly on a loose leash. He does need to work on his recall, so he hopes to take on obedience training and learn some new commands with you. But most of all, he’s looking for the loving fur-ever family he deserves. Fill out an application today and let this kind soul know you're interested! An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
