ctful, yes Good with dogs: It takes some warming up, but then yes Good with cats: Curious but seems to be okay. Current on vaccinations: Yes Hi there! My name is Ernie, and I’m on the lookout for my real forever family this time. I was born in July 2025 down in Texas, starting life as a street pup before making my way to a shelter. From there, I traveled all the way to Wisconsin, where I landed in a foster home and was quickly adopted. Sadly, things didn’t work out like we hoped, so now I’m back in foster care, still believing my perfect match is out there. I may be young, but I’ve already had quite the journey… and I’m ready to finally settle down. A little about me: I’ve got a BIG personality packed into this handsome body. I love to “talk,” and yes, my bark is loud and deep… it might sound intimidating at first, but it usually turns into me asking for love and attention. I’m a total softie underneath it all. I also like to gently guide your hand to where I want pets (I know what I like!) and I’m a big fan of hugs… maybe too big of a fan, but I’m working on keeping all four paws on the ground. The good stuff: *I know how to sit and lay down *I go into my kennel when asked *I’m smart and eager to learn *I have so much potential (my foster says so!) What I’m still working on: I’ll be honest… I’m a bit of a work in progress right now. New people and situations can make me nervous, and I use my big bark to cope. I also like to show other dogs that I’m the “tough guy,” but once I feel safe, my sweeter, calmer side really starts to shine. Sharing is new to me too, so I’m learning that I don’t have to guard my things anymore. It’s a process, but I’m trying! What I need: *A patient, understanding family *Someone willing to continue my training *A calm, structured home where I can build confidence *Lots of love (seriously, I thrive on it) I might not be perfect right now, but I promise I’m worth it. With the right person by my side, I know I can grow into the best dog I’m meant to be. So… what do you think? Could you be my forever? — Ernie [] [] Adoption also includes Certified Vet Inspection, and prior vetting paperwork. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
