and the volunteers are taking great care of me as I wait for my new family to come and adopt me. I'm ready to meet them and have my 'happily ever after'! I'm heartworm positive, but I'll be treated for that soon, so local adoption please. I've been selected to participate in the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience off-site and am learning a lot! Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I'm available to meet. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I’ve met and made friends with many dogs at Mostly Mutts and think that another good-natured dog in my new home could really help with the separation anxiety/loneliness that I feel, so if you have a dog like this, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I met two nice boys around 6 years old at Mostly Mutts and did some jumping when they ran (in a playful, non-aggressive way) so kids 15+ may be a good match for me. Let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a very friendly, sweet and gentle girl whose main job in life is to love you as much as possible and to spend all our time together. I can get a little exuberant and mouthy at times when I play, so excited to get to be out of the shelter. I’m a happy dog when I’m with people, but I do have severe separation anxiety. I’ll need a family that has someone who is home most of the time (a stay-at-home or work-from-home family member) so I can have a constant and loyal companion! I do great helping at the MM front desk so maybe take me to work or even better . . . work from home! I need a patient family that will help me learn that my family is coming back. A Mostly Mutts trainer will assist you with this. / My energy level is 5-7 though I’ll need to stay a bit calmer until I’ve finished my heartworm treatment. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience, so I have mastered the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it' and 'place' commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept friendly strangers without jumping. There are more classes we can take together so, let's continue my training with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs! / I am NOT a fan of the crate and should not use a metal crate due to biting the bars. At Mostly Mutts, I'm in a single room without a crate, ask for more details about this. In my foster home, I do not want to be left in any room where I cannot see my people so wide-open spaces or possibly an open area that could be gated if necessary would be best. I am working with my trainer on using a Gunner kennel. Please ask about this. / I'm having accidents on the shelter schedule. I have not had any accidents in my foster home, with a good let-out schedule every 3-4 hours during the day, right before bed, and about 7-8 hours later. Please continue to be consistent with me on a good schedule, so I can master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I’m happiest when I am with my people and not missing out on any fun or companionship. I collect all the cuddles and love hugs! I enjoy peanut butter Kongs and I’ve got lots of young dog energy, so I look forward to great play sessions and walks in my new home. I love going for walks in the woods with some of the wonderful volunteers who take me on day trips! Slowly walking together when I sniff everything is so much fun! I also love sitting very close when on car rides—so adorable! / Other than the crate and being alone, I can’t think of any dislikes, though like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’m also on medication for separation anxiety, so just ask about that. Sadly, I wasn’t kept on heartworm prevention in my previous home, so I’m heartworm positive. The good news is that I’ll be treated for that soon, and Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of that treatment with their vet. I hope to be with my new family before treatment begins! I am looking for a wonderful home with a family that has a family member at home most of the time. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
