passed away and my mom’s schedule changed significantly. I’m glad to be here and in a wonderful foster home enjoying myself while I wait for a new family to come and adopt me. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: In my former home, I enjoyed playing with the medium sized and a little bit larger dogs and did well during open play when at a doggie daycare/boarding facility. I was a bit nervous around smaller dogs and would bark at them. I met dogs about my size at Mostly Mutts and was very interested in them and pretty vocal, so if you have a dog perhaps a bit larger than me, let’s meet and see if we can be good friends! / Cats unknown. / My former owner reported that I liked playing with the kids while with them, though I don’t recall their ages, so if you have kids, let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over as I am a little jumpy. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: My former owner and fosters report that I’m a very sweet, serene, well-behaved and easygoing girl who just loves being with people. I haven’t chewed anything outside of my toy box, and I’m eager to please - more than most Rat Terrier mixes! I’m generally very quiet and didn’t even bark at the mailman in my former home, and I settled into my foster home very quickly. I’ve been friendly with everyone I’ve met so far and just an incredibly sweet girl through and through. / Energy level: 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: So far, I know the ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’ and ‘go to your kennel’ commands. Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s continue my training together. I’m reported to be a runner as my curiosity is just too strong if I see a bird or squirrel that needs chasing – so let’s work on my recall and keep me on leash please for my safety. My former owner also recommends that if you have a fence, make sure there aren’t gaps or openings in it, so I don’t slip through it and run. Threshold training would be great, too, so I can learn not to run out the door. These are all things we can learn together in the MM training classes! / In my former home, I liked to sleep in my crate at night – I’d put myself in it and it seemed to be a nice safe spot that I enjoyed sleeping in, so my foster is keeping with that routine. / Both my former owner and fosters report that I have very good potty manners. I am used to having someone home and do like to go outside multiple times during the day, so I’d be thrilled with a stay-at-home or work-from-home family member. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I have lots of likes! I love napping in sunny spots and in my dog beds and I sure enjoy going on walks. I already know the routine in my foster home and happily head out for my morning and evening walks which are about 1.5 miles in the morning and 1 mile in the evening if time permits. (I could go farther than that and more often if you like walking a lot!) I do enjoy spending some time outside in my fosters’ fenced yard – sniffing around, running zoomies and watching the birds and squirrels, but I’m just as happy relaxing inside with my people. Belly rubs, neck scratches, playing together and cozy cuddles are also some of my very favorite things! / I’m not a fan of deer – I get pretty excited when I see them and bark and want to chase! And like all dogs, I wouldn’t be happy without enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I have a luxating patella in my right, rear leg which can be common in a lot of smaller dogs, so I take an over-the-counter Cosequin tablet to help with that. I’m a wonderful-natured dog looking for a wonderful family to love and be loved by! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
