ctually be a dog and not just a chaotic collection of squeaky toys and bad decisions. 1 year old Male mixed breed 43 lbs Partially blind and deaf His daily schedule is roughly: Squeak toy. Squeak toy again. Carry squeak toy around the house. Walk into furniture. Walk into different furniture. Demand attention. Sleep. The ThunderShirt has become one of his favorite things, and he’s learning that relaxing isn’t actually illegal. He still has his moments, but every week he gets more comfortable, more confident, and somehow even funnier. A calm, neutral dog would be great. No young children. Not ideal for anyone with mobility or balance concerns—when excited, he occasionally forgets he’s not a wrecking ball. Gargoyle is not a “love at first sight” dog. He’s a “why is this dog staring at the wall with a squeaky ball in his mouth?” dog. A “did he just run into that same chair twice?” dog. A “how can one dog be this ridiculous and this lovable at the same time?” dog. And honestly? That’s what makes him special. Gargoyle is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines and is heart-worm negative. He’s fostered in New Bloomfield, PA. Apply today at .pack9rescue or request your meet and greet if already pre-approved! We are PA Caring for K-9's, an all-breed dog rescue that is solely run by volunteers. Most of our dogs are rescued from high kill shelters in the South. If the dog is posted, they are still available! Once arriving, these dogs enter foster homes, as we do not have a shelter. We cannot adopt out dogs to a home with dogs that are not fixed or up to date on shots. If interested in adopting, please submit an application online at .pack9rescue. Our adoption fee for altered dogs is $350 and goes directly to saving the lives of more dogs. Our adoption fee for unaltered puppies will be $400 which includes a refundable $50 deposit upon receipt of spay/neuter certificate. Learn more about adopting from us or volunteering for us at .pack9rescue or check us out on Facebook for more information and a complete list of dogs available for adoption. .facebook/PaCaringForK9s/ See upcoming events below where PA Caring for K9’s will be with some of our adoptable dogs! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
