love her and a buddy to play with—she’s happiest when she’s being her playful, joyful self. Her story hasn’t been an easy one. Roxy was found on the side of the road in the rain after being hit by a vehicle, suffering multiple serious injuries including a broken shoulder, tail, femur, and even a break in her back. Thanks to the incredible team at Auburn University, she received life-saving surgery and care—and today, she’s doing amazingly well. Because of what she’s been through, Roxy does have some lingering PTSD, but she continues to grow more confident every day. She’ll need a patient, understanding home that will support her as she continues to heal and thrive, especially as she gets older. Roxy absolutely loves people and is wonderful with kids, though she can be a bit jumpy when she gets excited, so a home without very small children would be best. She also loves cats… unfortunately, the feeling isn’t always mutual. She would truly shine in a home with another friendly, playful dog who can be her companion. Due to her injuries and breed, Roxy cannot be spayed until she is at least one year old to allow her body to grow as strong as possible. Her future family will need to provide proof of spay when the time comes. Roxy has been through so much, but she hasn’t let it dim her spirit. She’s resilient, loving, and ready to find a home that will cherish her just as much as she’ll cherish them. Adoptions are limited to an approximately 150-mile radius from Locust Grove, GA, certain circumstances may allow exceptions. To apply to adopt this pet, please fill out a Preliminary Adoption Application at .streetpaws/adopt. T his application does not commit you to an adoption. It is used to screen those interested to make sure the home is a good match for the pet and your family. We verify vet history on current/previous pets to ensure pets have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated annually. Please call your vet to give permission for us to call them. Our adoption fee is $400 . She has been given age-appropriate vaccinations, receives monthly heartworm prevention, dewormed, receives flea prevention, and will be micro-chipped. We will ensure the microchip is registered. If more information is needed regarding the pet email infostreetpaws. You must complete the pre-application to obtain approval to meet the pet.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
