bmitted by its owner. The dog did not undergo a behaviral evaluation by BPRS. BPRS has no further involvment in the adoption process unless requested by the owner and/or adopter. House trained Crate trained Knows basic commands Walks great on leash Rides well in the car Good with kids Cat friendly Loves people (like… REALLY loves people) Enjoys other dogs May guard food/toys with dogs Could thrive as the only dog soaking up all the love Meet Nola: Nola is a 2.5-year-old Cane Corso with a heart as big as her paws. She was rescued from a rural shelter after some unfortunate circumstances, but you’d never know it by her loving, easygoing nature. This girl is an absolute love bug. Nola lives for snuggles, scratches, and being close to her people. She’s incredibly social and happily greets everyone she meets like an old friend and completely unaware that she’s a 90-pound lap dog. If you’re looking for a dog who will lean into you for affection and melt right into your arms, she’s your girl. Nola has calm, quiet energy in the home and is a joy to be around. She is house trained; crate trained and knows her basic commands. She walks beautifully on a leash and rides well in the car. She also enjoys going out and having fun with you, whether it’s a good game of tug, a round of fetch, or a nice walk on the hiking trail or around the block . Nola has a personality you’ll absolutely fall in love with. She’s happy to join in on the fun and then settle right back down by your side. Like most young dogs, Nola has a playful and mischievous side and may occasionally grab a shoe to carry around, but she is not destructive she just likes to “borrow” things. She’s also a big fan of stuffies and loves carrying them around like her favorite little treasures. She’s been great with kids and is even cat-friendly! Nola enjoys other dogs but has shown some resource guarding around food and occasionally toys with them (never with people). With proper management, she can do well, though she may also thrive as the only dog in the home where she can soak up all the love. Nola has the softest, teddy bear like fur and the sweetest soul to match… and yes, she does come with a little drool but that’s part of the Corso charm! Her foster mom, who is also a trainer, absolutely adores her and knows Nola is going to make her family incredibly happy! Nola is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and prevention. She is currently fostered in Virginia, but transport is available. Please apply today! mustlovecorsosrescue/adopt-foster-application/

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
