d: Mostly Crate-Trained: Yes (loves his crate) Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: No Energy Level: Low Fence Required: No Special Traits: Limited teeth, one eye, loves blankets, easygoing personality Why You’ll Love Curly Fries: Super calm and low-maintenance Loves cozy naps and soft blankets Gets along with dogs and cats Independent but affectionate Perfect for a quiet home Adorable “little old man” charm About the Breed: Chihuahuas are known for their loyalty, adaptability, and strong bonds with their people. They often thrive in calmer environments and make excellent companions for those looking for a small dog with a big heart and a gentle presence. Curly Fries’ Story & Personality: Curly Fries is the definition of a laid-back, sweet senior boy. With his soft personality and love for comfort, he’s happiest curled up in a cozy bed, tucked under his favorite blanket. He’s a very easygoing dog who doesn’t ask for much. While he enjoys attention and will come to you when he’s in the mood for affection, he’s also perfectly content doing his own thing—usually relaxing in his crate or lounging in a comfy spot. His crate is his safe haven, and he genuinely enjoys spending time there with the door open, coming and going as he pleases. Curly Fries gets along well with other dogs and cats, making him a great addition to a calm, multi-pet household. He does best in an adult-only home where he can enjoy a peaceful routine. He is mostly housebroken, crate trained, and walks nicely on a leash. He does not require a fenced yard and would do well in a variety of living situations, including apartments. Curly Fries has had some medical challenges—he has very few teeth and has had one eye removed—but he doesn’t let that slow him down at all. He’s still full of sweetness and charm. His skin has also needed some care, but it’s improving, and his fur is growing back nicely. He will benefit from an adopter who is mindful of his skincare needs, including maintaining a healthy routine with omega supplements or similar support, as well as someone comfortable feeding a dog with limited teeth. Despite everything, Curly Fries remains incredibly gentle, content, and loving. He truly is the cutest little old man who just wants a soft place to rest and a kind human nearby. Curly Fries’ Ideal Home: Quiet, adult-only household Someone who enjoys a calm, low-energy companion A home that can support his skin care and dietary needs Someone who appreciates an independent but loving dog A cozy environment with plenty of soft beds and blankets Ready to Welcome This Sweet Senior into Your Life? Curly Fries is a gentle soul who will bring warmth and comfort to any home lucky enough to have him. If you’re looking for a low-key companion who will quietly steal your heart, Curly Fries is ready to curl up beside you. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
