, silky blonde hair, he's basically the supermodel of the dog park - though he'll need a dedicated stylist (that's you!) for regular brushing to keep those locks looking fabulous. His story: Franklin didn't have the easiest start in life. Coming from a hoarding situation, the world can still feel a little big and intimidating to him. He's a sensitive soul who gets a bit nervous meeting new people or entering unfamiliar environments. However, once he knows he's safe, his true colors shine through: he is the ultimate sweetheart and love bug. Personality & Perks: Don't let his shy first impression fool you - this boy has serious puppy spunk! He loves to run, jump, and play. He's got energy to spare and a real zest for life. Franklin's favorite place to be is right behind you. He'll happily follow you from room to room just to stay in the loop. He's also quite the conversationalist - Franklin isn't afraid to use his voice. Whether he's excited, a little spooked, or just has something to say, he'll let out a bark to keep you informed. Lifestyle Needs: Franklin is good with other dogs, provided they are polite and respect his personal space. However, he's not a fan of cats, so a feline-free home is a must. His history with kids is unknown, but given his nervous nature, a calm and predictable environment would be best. Like many young dogs from his background, Franklin is still working on his potty training. He'll need a patient human who can guide him with a consistent routine. Franklin is not a big traveler, he's more of a "staycation" kind of guy! He gets carsick, so he's looking for a family that understands short trips are best, or who is willing to work with him slowly to conquer his tummy troubles on the road. Franklin's Wishlist is a patient home, a soft brush for his golden hair, and a lap to call his own. If you have a little extra patience to help this blonde beauty gain his confidence, Franklin will repay you with a lifetime of loyal follows and sweet snuggles. If you're ready to meet your new best friend, please complete an application at caws/adoption-application. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Franklin's adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in adopting a CAWS pet, please fill out an online application at caws/adoption-application

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
