please see HERE Age: 1 yr as of 4/8/26 Weight: 22 lbs. as of 4/8/26 Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Letty is a one‑year‑old, 22‑lb beagle mix with the softest eyes and the sweetest nature. She’s a quiet little girl with a soft, thoughtful presence that makes her incredibly endearing. She takes comfort in quiet companionship, and chooses to observe rather than participate in her surroundings. She will have brief moments of solo zoomies in the fenced yard, and also perks up with interest when the other dogs start to play around her. She recently started playing with the dogs in her foster home. She’s doing well with housetraining, co-exists well with other dogs, and is calm in her crate for hours at a time, and prefers to spend her days observing quiet activities at home and nights sleeping in the bed with her people. Letty is still getting her bearings after traveling from Oklahoma to RI, and she will likely take longer than most rescue dogs to start to show her true personality. She needs a quiet household that is committed to allowing her to blossom at her own speed. Sudden movements or noises in the home startle her, and she can be overwhelmed by o ff property excursions and social interactions. She is as quiet and docile as a mouse, and needs an equally gentle home that will maintain a safe space for her for however long she needs to settle and build confidence. Access to a fenced-in outdoor area would also help her transition. Although she is doing well with the young child in her foster home, a home with small kids may be too overwhelming at this poing. Letty will thrive with a gentle, patient family who will cherish Letty for who she is today, and who will celebrate every small moment of progress over the coming years as she discovers comfort, routine, and love. Come say hi to Letty! Letty's Backstory: Letty comes from a hoarding situation in Oklahoma, where she was kept in large outdoor kennels with many other dogs . Despite her challenging first year of life, she has held onto her loving, trusting heart — she leans into affection, watches other dogs play with interest, and is already learning how good life can be inside a home. Note: Caregivers of dogs from hoarding situations should be prepared for quirks as well as fear of normal household things/life, people, and excursions. Adopters of dogs like these need to be looking to adopt to help the dog, not so much to get a pet for themselves with specific expectations of the pet. While dogs from hoarding situations can make great pets, they need a home and lifestyle that is gentle, accommodating and will be forgiving as their needs and personalities unfold. Here is a great resource: .washingtonpashelter/understanding-and-caring-for-rescued-hoarded-dogs/ An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
