to Lexington though when inquiring about me as that’s the name all my records are under). I was adopted for about 8 months, but I’m back with Mostly Mutts because I simply could not get along with the kitties in my home. I’m in a wonderful foster home now, while I wait to find my new family! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I liked some dogs I met while in my former home though I would snap at dogs who didn't respect my personal space. In my foster home, they took things slowly with some walks together, sitting and eating separately inside, etc. and we became comfortable with each other and get along well now. When I was formerly with Mostly Mutts, I liked the mellow small dogs, but not the larger ones, so if you have a dog that sounds like we could be a match, let’s take a walk together and have a nice slow introduction and see if we can be friends. I believe I’d also be happy as your only pet. / No cats as I cannot live with them due to my strong prey drive. / Mostly Mutts thinks older kids would be best as I did bite a 7-year-old in my former home over resource guarding and I’m uncomfortable with small kids who don't respect my personal space. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: Based on what my former owner and foster have shared, I’m an affectionate, happy-natured, loving boy who’s a total cuddler. I have a great balance of playful and chill, with a fun, silly personality that keeps things entertaining. I haven’t been destructive with furniture, which is a big plus! I absolutely love people and attention - I’ll happily jump up to be close to you and will even try to sit right in your lap if you let me. I’m a very sweet, lovable dog who truly enjoys being with my humans, and I am a very good boy! / Energy level: 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: My former owner reported that I know the ‘sit’, ‘leave it’ and ‘down’ commands. They also say that I should not be off leash due to strong prey and scent drive. I formerly resource guarded so I’m not allowed on furniture and that helped. My leash manners are pretty good, though when I see other dogs, I look like I would want to “mix it up” with them, so my foster just crosses the street. When I was with Mostly Mutts, I knew lots of commands, so let’s take advantage of the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers all their adopted dogs. / In my former home, I was anxious when left home alone – they reported that I should be crated and would cry, howl and bark for long periods of time, so best no apartment/condo type home due to this. At bedtime, I enjoy sleeping in my foster’s bed and occasionally on a dog bed next to it. / My #1 potty habits have been good in both my former and foster homes. I’m still working on my #2 habits, as I sometimes go indoors without signaling that I need to go out. Keeping closet doors closed is helpful, and I’ll need my new family to continue working with me using positive training. I am used to a fenced yard, and I go outside quite frequently. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I have lots of fun favorites! I love blankets and soft toys - I’ll even make little nests out of them. Tennis balls are a big hit, and I have a great time playing tug-of-war or chasing a ball. I also love squeaky toys. I’m a big fan of tasty treats like chicken, cheese, yak cheese bones, bully sticks and even broccoli. I also really enjoy soaking up the sunshine in a cozy spot. More than anything, I love attention - snuggling, being a lap dog, and going for walks and car rides! / I don’t like being left alone for long and can feel anxious when I am, so I’d do best in a home where someone is around a good bit. I’m not a big fan of baths, and I prefer my space around other dogs or young children - unless I choose to interact. Like all dogs, I wouldn’t be happy without plenty of love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m a wonderful dog looking for a wonderful family that will treasure me! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
