d am so glad to be here. I was adopted, but it turned out that living with cats just wasn’t the right fit for me. So, I’m back with Mostly Mutts in a wonderful foster home while I wait for my perfect match - a loving, kitty-free family to call my own! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I’m selective about my dog friends, and my initial reaction when I see other dogs isn’t always my best. However, there’s another family dog that comes to stay with me every few months, and we coexist very well together. My foster will be happy to talk with you about the introduction that seems to work best for me. Larger dogs can be intimidating to me, so I wouldn’t want to live with one. If you have a dog that sounds like it might be a good match, let’s meet and see how we do. That said, I think I’d be perfectly happy being your one-and-only pet, too! / No cats please as I have a strong prey drive. / I enjoy spending time with the sweet 11-year-old granddaughter who visits my foster home. So, if you have children around that age or older, let’s meet! I’m not comfortable with younger children though and did nip a 7-year-old during a resource-guarding incident in my former home. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m an affectionate, lovable, happy-natured boy who’s a total cuddler. I have a great balance of playful and chill, with a fun, silly personality that keeps things entertaining. I haven’t been destructive with furniture or anything at all in my foster home because I know what’s mine and what isn’t. I absolutely love people and attention - I’ll happily jump up to be close to you and will even try to sit right in your lap if you let me. I’m a very sweet, lovable dog who truly enjoys being with my humans – I’m such a good boy! / Energy level: 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: In my foster home, I know the ‘sit’ command and understand what ‘no’ means. When it’s mealtime, I’ll come quickly when I hear the words ‘dog food,’ and if someone mentions a ‘treat,’ you can bet I’ll come running! I also understand ‘go for a walk?’ and love being told I’m a ‘good boy’ - because who doesn’t want to be a good boy? My leash manners are pretty good, though I can get a little worked up when I see other dogs, so my foster simply gives me some extra space by crossing the street. / When my foster leaves for a little while, I do cry and bark a bit, but it stops after a while because when she returns, the home is quiet. All the same, best no apartment/condo type home as we want the neighbors to love me like they do in my current foster home. At bedtime, I enjoy sleeping in my foster’s bed or on a dog bed next to it. / I’ve had a few accidents in the house. The problem is that there are so many exciting things in the yard - chipmunks, squirrels, and lizards - and I feel it’s my responsibility to keep them out of our yard! Sometimes I get so distracted by my backyard patrol duties that I forget to take care of my business. To help me stay focused, my foster takes me outside on a leash, which makes it easier for me to remember why I’m out there in the first place. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I have lots of fun favorites! I love blankets and soft toys - I’ll even make little nests out of them. Tennis balls are a big hit, and I have a great time playing tug-of-war or chasing a ball. I also love squeaky toys. I’m a big fan of tasty treats like chicken, cheese, yak cheese bones, bully sticks and even broccoli. I also really enjoy soaking up the sunshine in a cozy spot. More than anything, I love attention - snuggling, being a lap dog, and going for walks where I can greet neighbors and I enjoy car rides, too! / I don’t like being left alone for long and can feel anxious when I am, so I’d do best in a home where someone is around a good bit to hang out with. Like all dogs, I wouldn’t be happy without plenty of love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m a wonderful dog looking for a wonderful family that will treasure me! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
