go-lucky young dog whose joyful spirit and loving personality make him an instant favorite. At just one year old and 44 pounds, this handsome Pointer/Mountain Cur mix brings the perfect balance of playful energy and affectionate companionship. Monty is friendly, eager to please, and truly thrives on spending time with his people. One of Monty’s most charming traits is his big, sweet smile, which he happily shares whenever he’s getting attention or enjoying time with his humans. He loves affection and will gladly soak up pets, brushing sessions, and even towel-drying after a rainy adventure. Monty’s enthusiasm and desire to connect make him a wonderful companion who genuinely enjoys being part of everyday life. Monty is a smart and well-mannered boy who already knows several commands, including: sit, down, wait, off, and come. He is fully housetrained and quickly mastered using a dog door. Crate time comes naturally to him as well; he sleeps quietly through the night and often chooses to relax in an open crate during the day. Mealtime is another moment where Monty shines - he politely runs to his spot, waits patiently for his bowl, and eats calmly even around other dogs. Playtime is where Monty’s fun-loving side really comes out. He enjoys chasing balls, playing tug with toys, and romping around with other dogs. He meets new people and canine friends, does well with older children, and has even shown respectful behavior around a dog-friendly cat. On walks, he’s a pleasure to handle, walking nicely on leash without pulling, and he hops happily into the car for rides, quietly taking in the sights along the way. Monty would thrive in a home with an active individual or family who can continue nurturing his training while giving him plenty of love and attention. A fenced yard and a playful canine companion would be a bonus, but what Monty truly wants most is a person to bond with and share life’s moments. With his affectionate heart, bright intelligence, and joyful outlook, Monty is ready to become a loyal, loving companion who will bring smiles every single day. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
