;rsquo;s the definition of a happy dog. He loves people, loves other dogs, and lives life like every day is the best day ever. He’s sweet, silly, playful, and the kind of dog who will keep you laughing with his goofy antics and lovable personality. If you’re looking for a dog with a lot of love to give and a lot of fun still ahead of him, Rizzy is your guy. He loves treats, toys, romping around the backyard, and going for walks. He’s a strong boy and is still working on his leash manners, but he truly enjoys being out and about. A fence will be required for him. If you’re into long walks or even a run, Rizz would be more than happy to join you. Being a younger dog and coming from a horrible hoarding and neglect case, he’s also still learning some basics like keeping all four paws on the ground and staying calm for collar and leash time. The good news is that Rizz is very trainable, and with consistency, patience, and a few good treats, he has so much potential to keep learning and growing. While Rizz definitely has his playful side and can get the zoomies, he also enjoys a good nap. He’s a nice mix of fun and sweet, active and cuddly, with plenty of puppy energy but also an appreciation for downtime. He’s just so happy to leave his past behind him and have this fresh start. Rizz is potty trained now, sleeps through the night like a champ, and can be left alone without being destructive. He is not perfectly kennel trained because he hates being in there, but he does well when left out. His future family should know that, due to his size, he can counter surf with ease, so snacks definitely need to stay out of reach. He also gets the occasional case of zoomies, and because he’s a big, tall boy, he can accidentally bulldoze his way through the room without meaning to. More than anything, he just wants to be loved and included. Rizz is a very special boy to us and we even went to court to testify on his behalf. We will be extra picky about who gets to adopt him. He deserves the best. He has all the makings of an incredible best friend. If you’re looking for a fun loving, loyal dog who will keep you smiling, make you laugh, and fill your home with love, Rizz is ready to meet you. He is freshly neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, and ready for his happy ever after! His adoption donation is $425. Please apply on our website directly in the dropdown menu at havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
