. Small, scruffy, and impossible to resist, Dino is the kind of dog who turns everyday moments into something a little sweeter. With his soft, cream-colored coat, floppy ears, and curious eyes, he looks like a living teddy bear… but with a playful spark that keeps life fun. Dino is the definition of “chill”—he’ll happily snooze in his dog bed or curl up next to you, content to simply be close. But the minute you get up he gets up too! Be ready for a loyal shadow, because Dino sticks right by your side wherever you go—even to the bathroom (you’ll never be alone again)! If you work from home, Dino makes the perfect office buddy. He loves settling at the bottom of your computer chair during working hours. And if other family members are home, he will take turns hanging out with each of them. Dino enjoys walks, exploring scents, and marking his territory (typical male dog). He knows how to walk on the leash – but is a bit cautious where he is going having lived as a stray for a while. Once Dino gets onto a lap he melts in the person’s arms. He enjoys being petted closing his eyes imagining his dream coming true. He prefers to sleep in a human bed so he can stay close. Dino’s desire for companionship makes him a cuddle buddy who will always want to be near his favorite humans. When visitors arrive, Dino considers himself the greeting committee and then wants to follow the new person around to be part of the action. Dino loves all people and enjoys laying at the feet or beside ones that are sitting down. He will be calm since the person is calm. His favorite room in the house is the kitchen standing next to the person preparing a meal. Dino thinks he is “helping” by cleaning up the floor when needed. Car rides excite Dino as he jumps in the vehicle making himself comfortable in the passenger seat saying, “take me somewhere fun”. Dino gets along with other dogs but prefers human companionship more. He will be comfortable living as an only dog or with dog siblings. According to his foster family, Dino would thrive in any household as long as he still receives plenty of attention. Dino is potty trained and enjoys going potties outside. He has had a couple of accidents inside the foster house because of learning the new routine. He does not like being in a crate. The fosters concluded since he is four years old his previous house must have not needed to keep him in one so are recommending the adopter not have plans to use a crate for him because it makes him anxious and wondering why he is in one. More than anything, Dino wants to be close to his humans. While he may whine initially when his people leave, he quickly settles down and patiently waits for their return. Dino is ready to find his forever home—the kind where he can feel safe, loved, and maybe a little spoiled (he won’t complain!). If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a soft coat and an even softer heart, Dino might be your perfect match. Important Note – 4LD would like Dino placed in his permanent home as soon as possible since he has lived as a stray and spent two weeks in a shelter. Dino is up to date on his vaccinations but still needs to be neutered, which the adopter will assist with at our vet's office (Animal Rescue Coalition in Sarasota). The neuter surgery is included in the adoption fee that is paid when adopting him. 4LD is asking the adopter take Dino there for the surgery, care for him during the recovery, and then take him back for his stitch removal. This is a benefit for Dino because he will have adjusted to his new permanent home and as he recovers he will be in those familiar surroundings. Dino’s adoption fee is $620. This dog comes microchipped, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, heartworm tested, and dewormed. He still needs to be neutered which is already included in this fee. He is currently being fostered in the Plant City/Valrico area. The average lifespan for this small breed is 16 years. Therefore, Dinos’ adopter will need to be prepared to care for him for around 12 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again. ----------------- ***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue team, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out an application at .4luckydogs, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.***

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
