ther, Hazel. She had a dislocated right hip when she came in and was spayed at the same time as having her leg repaired, after which she has been doing very well. For the first few days, she can be shy when meeting new people, but as she starts to trust you, she begins to show her cuddly, playful nature. She enjoys curling up in your arms and sleeping close to the covers at night. Lily loves toys, will get on well with another young, playful dog if properly introduced, and will be very loyal. At this time, we do not know if she has experience living with cats. Lily has not lived with young children, so families with kids should plan to supervise interactions and gradually introduce her to them to help her feel comfortable. She is afraid of men and will therefore need introductions to be made slowly and steadily. A dog pen is a good idea if there is a man in the house, as it gives her a chance to relax and helps her to build trust with him. She will do splendidly in a home that consists only of women. Lily is about 1 to 1.5 years old. She has a very soft, almost white coat with brown spots on her legs; her face has a distinctive, almost black pattern beneath the white fur, and she has a beautiful black nose. Her ears are straight and tall, similar to those of rat terriers and some Chihuahuas; she has the long legs typical of an Italian Greyhound, and she possesses the intelligence characteristic of Rat Terriers and Jack Russells. If you enjoy agility course training, Lily could probably do well since she is both intelligent and has the stamina. Lily's daily routine includes two short walks and one longer play session. She enjoys playing with squeaky toys and balls in a fenced yard or in the living room. After some morning exercise, Lily settles down next to her foster parent while they work or relax. She typically eats twice a day, in the morning and evening, and enjoys her human-grade dog food. Lily looks forward to some gentle playtime before bedtime and loves curling up in her dog bed or under the covers at night. She does best with a predictable schedule and positive, gentle interactions throughout the day. Lily has an adoption fee of $395.00. Lily has had the spay procedure, is up to date on her vaccinations, and is in good health. If you would like to adopt this sweet girl, kindly complete an application on our website at .smallpupsrescue . Once we receive your application, a member of our team will contact you to discuss Lily and answer any questions you may have. We may also arrange a virtual or in-person home visit to ensure it is a good match for both you and Lily. If everything goes well, we will guide you through the final steps of the adoption process. Thank you for considering giving Lily a loving home.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
