moment and chase a toy the next. Affectionate to her core, Nala is a true snuggle bug who loves being held, getting scratches, and giving plenty of puppy kisses. She may start off a little shy in new situations, but it doesn’t take long for her sweet and playful personality to shine through. Once she feels comfortable, she’s full of tail wags, curiosity, and happy energy. Nala is just beginning her training journey. She’s doing well learning her potty routine with frequent outdoor breaks and has started exploring her crate as a cozy place to nap. Like many puppies, she’ll need continued guidance, patience, and consistency as she grows. She thrives on companionship and would do best in a home where she isn’t left alone for long periods, as she truly loves being around her people (and other furry friends!). Nala has been more timid when meeting other dogs, but warmed up within a day or two. She has not shown much interest in cats. With children, she's very excited but needs guidance to not be mouthy. She has a funny habit of somehow getting her entire head wet every time she drinks water! She enjoys squeaky toys, is starting to love chasing balls, and has that perfect puppy rhythm of play hard, snuggle close, and nap deeply. As she grows, she will likely have high energy as a shepherd, so plenty of activities in a fenced yard, frequent walks, or hikes will keep her happy. Nala is ready to find a forever home filled with love, activity, and plenty of cuddle time. If you’re looking for lots of kisses, Nala is ready to meet you! If you are interested in Nala, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
