ale Altered: yes Coat: medium Size: medium Color(s): black/white/brown brindle Description: ***Needs a Foster Home*** This dog is in need of a foster home as well as a permanent home. If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online foster application. Hi, I'm Homer, an American Staffordshire Terrier / German Shepherd X with a heart of gold and a playful spirit! I'm an active boy who is always up for an adventure and is hoping to find my forever home where I can be the center of attention. I am an affectionate soul who used to get along well with other dogs, but I've had some challenges recently and now prefer to be the only canine in the family. That being said, I get along fine with cats and kids, though I may do best in an adult-only home due to my active nature and strong voice. I love my toys and I'm always up for a game or a good cuddle on the couch. With my playful and affectionate nature, I am sure to bring joy and laughter to your home. I just need a family that can provide me with plenty of exercise and stimulation I need, including an extra-high fence to keep me safe and secure. I'm a smart boy who knows the commands "come" and "sit," and I walk beautifully on a leash, making me a joy to take on outings. Oh, and did I mention I'm house-trained and crate-trained? I'll even let you know when I have to go outside. I'm basically the whole package! Now, there's one more thing you should know about me: I'm a bit of a barker. I like to think of it as my way of keeping everyone entertained and informed. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will keep you on your toes and fill your days with love and laughter, I may be the one for you. I've got so much love to give and I'm ready to find my special person. Could you be the one? Please fill out an online application to meet me. *Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving him the chance for a better life.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
