someone. Our goal is to match each dog with the home that fits them best and each home with the dog that will sing to your heart. Ready to adopt? Complete an application at .carolinapoodlerescue/application Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet, SC Weight: 5.7 lbs Height: 6 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes. Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Absolutely, Ru is nervous and will run if spooked. Want To Know More About Me? Text Ru to 864-441-9075 (all that we know about Ru right now, is here) for a link to our application. Or apply to adopt directly at .carolinapoodlerescue/application/ Here's Your Quick Peek: Ru is a breeder release dog and spent the first years of her life outside in a pen. She is nervous and skittish, it takes her time to warm up, and she is most comfortable around other dogs. She has no idea what being a house pet means and she has a lot to learn. Please note - if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: .carolinapoodlerescue/application/ Must have: Another dog in the home, an experienced family that understands nervous and skittish rescue dogs, a fenced in yard. Exercise: Ru is currently very mellow, but this could be due to fear. All of her buddies are very playful. She could open up and become playful as well. Best with: Other dogs, slow gentle approach and consistency. Calm quiet environments. Not ideal for: Children, loud unstable routines, homes without another dog, first time dog owners. Energy level: Ru is currently very mellow, but this could be due to fear. All of her buddies are very playful. She could open up and become playful as well. Ru is looking for a lot of guidance, she does not understand the world of a beloved pet and right now it is more than she can handle. She is sweet but does not trust easy, she is looking for someone that will show up even when it is hard. She will need guidance and training. Good with dogs: Yes, absolutely must have dogs in her life and home. Good with kids: No, we would not recommend Ru to a home with children. Cats: UNK Fun fact: Ru loves a good comfy bed and soft blanket! (Bring one for her on adoption day!) Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. Want updates and ways to help? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
