y wherever she goes. Cora is very much an one-the-go girl, and is looking for an active family that can keep up with her zest for life. She would love a family that can take her on lots of adventures once she is fully vaccinated. Cora currently weighs about 5lbs and we estimate that she will be around 25lbs when fully grown. Cora was found as a stray all by herself and brought to the local animal shelter when she was only 6 weeks old. The shelter staff quickly reached out to us, and we were more than happy to have her placed in one of our foster homes. She has been thriving in foster care and is oh-so ready to start her new life with her fur-ever family! Cora is an active little gal who is always looking to have some fun. She is the type of pup who likes to be involved in whatever you're doing and is a great gardening buddy. She is in the stage of life where she plays hard and sleeps hard, and will have bursts of energy before finding somewhere to curl up for a power nap. She is a smart little pup and will need a family committed to continuing her basic manners training so that she can grow up to be the best girl she can be. Cora has a mind just as busy as her body, and will need lots of daily enrichment and exercise to keep her from finding other ways to amuse herself. Cora has been doing great living with other dogs and has become BFFs with the playful pug in her foster home. We think that she would do best with another active dog in her new home so that she always has someone to wrestle with. We haven't seen Cora around cats, but she may do well in a home with confident dog-savvy cats. Cora could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years and older. Cora is doing well with her housetraining, but is still learning and will need a family committed to helping her learn. She has done well sleeping in a crate at night, but is still getting used to the idea of being home alone. She would do best in a home where she can slowly be acclimated to being home alone. Due to her high energy, we think Cora wouldn't be a good fit to live in an apartment. Cora is such an adorable ball of fun and is going to bring so much happiness to her new family. If you think that might be you, submit an application today! Cora's adoption fee is $450. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
