ay and she is famously sweet! There is actually nothing artificial about this sweet thing! She makes the BEST gremlin noises and is animated and communicative at every turn. How low can you go? This girl is not only low-calorie, her low center of gravity is next level. And because she likes to be close to people, she attempts to climb her humans’ legs like a mountain goat on a vertical rock cliff. At 32 compact lbs, this little lady is the size of an individual sugar packet. She has already lost a few pounds but is still working to shed a few more to get to her goal weight. One packet of Sweet’N Low is as about as sweet as two teaspoons of sugar and this girl is no exception! Her wide smile, with the most amazing itty-bitty chicklet-teeth, should be patented! Sweet’N Low has an iconic pink tongue and her short stubby legs should be world famous. This pretty little lady came to us with kennel cough, but loves peanut butter and takes her pills easily, as long as PB is in the mix. At 4-years old, Sweet’N Low is a terrific age! We know well that more mature dogs are amazing! She is totally housetrained, non-destructive, and loves to chill. Sweet’N Low is a low-key pup who will gladly curl up while you sip your coffee, and she will eagerly substitute walks for snuggles. And if walking is required, this petite princess appreciates a low-key sniffari over a neighborhood power walk and demands executive assistance to be carried when stairs are involved. And she may have selective hearing. So get in the pink and satisfy your sweet tooth. There’s just no equal…your world will be sweeter with this little pup in it! Because of a lack of history and hearing impairment, older or no kids would be best for this saccharin-filled and sassy former stray. Sweet’N Low’s top 3 priorities: 1. A family who plans to be close to this little lady allll the time. She loves to be close to her humans, so allowing the dog on the furniture is a must! 2. A family who understands a bully! The extreme features that make Sweet’N Low ridiculously cute require some extra attention. Adorable wrinkles require some additional cleaning and care. That squishy face can mean breathing difficulty with exercise or quickly overheating in the sun. And those stubby legs mean she needs assistance with stairs (even one stair). 3. A family who will allow Sweet’N Low to sniff to her heart’s content. She needs ample opportunity to check out allll the smells! Sniffaris are much more appropriate than neighborhood power walks for this low-rider.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
