from a chaotic home in Texas where she lacked structure and training, she has embraced every opportunity to learn—and she's making amazing progress. This affectionate girl loves people, enjoys attention, and still believes she's a lap dog. She has a happy, eager-to-please personality and a heart full of love to give. Buttercup has recently completed training and continues to impress everyone with how much she has learned. She knows commands like sit, stay, down, wait, and come, walks nicely on leash, and has learned to sit politely at doors and gates. She is smart, attentive, and enjoys working with her people. One of Buttercup's biggest accomplishments is how well she has settled into a routine. She is fully housebroken and happily sleeps through the night in her crate from 10 PM to 6 AM. In fact, she loves her crate so much that she often chooses to relax there during the day and can comfortably remain crated for up to eight hours when needed. Buttercup is continuing to work on her dog manners. She can still get excited when she sees other dogs on walks and occasionally pulls toward them, but she is making steady progress. It has become clear that Buttercup genuinely enjoys the company of other dogs and would likely thrive in a home with a friendly canine companion. She seems happiest when she has another dog around and would love a buddy to play with and learn from. At around 40 pounds, Buttercup is still filling out and should be closer to 50–55 pounds. With continued love, structure, and good nutrition, she is sure to flourish. Buttercup has come so far and is ready for the next chapter of her life. She is looking for a family who will appreciate her affectionate nature, continue her training journey, and give her the stability and companionship she deserves. In return, she'll reward them with endless loyalty, cuddles, and love. Buttercup will be a wonderful addition to most families. Her adoption donation is $500. - Adopting an animal is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these animals have been through they deserve a loving, committed home.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
