please see HERE Age: 3 Months (as of 4/28/26) Weight: 6 lbs. (as of 4/28/26) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Chirp is one beautiful puppy! This sweet baby girl seems to be a little Chihuaha mix. She has been in her foster home for over a month and is described as affectionate, intelligent, resilient, mild mannered and carefree. Of course this pint sized pup brings her puppy energy but then she is good to chill in your lap. She has lived in a home with dogs of various sizes, adults, children and cats and has gotten along with everyone so far. She does well with an hour or two of activity a day and enjoys walks and playgroup in the yard with her other pup friends. Chirp uses bitey-mouth play, chase and wrestling with the other doggies. Chirp is still young and is not house or leash trained yet. She will benefit from obedience training. So far she is not a fan of the crate and will bark when she is in there but she has not had much experience with the crate so that could change. Chirp's size will need to be taken into consideration since she is mighty in personality but she is small in stature at just 6 lbs. Her foster family said that they love her spunk and her beautiful white coat and describe her as a perfect houseguest. Chirp is still a baby and has a lot to learn but she is described as smart and likes to please her humans which will serve her well in her training. While we don't know much about her background, we do know that Chirp is a beautiful goofy little pup looking for a lap to snuggle in. Is that lap yours? She is ready to learn with you and give you her love in return. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
