ove. Smart, kind, and affectionate, Izzy is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds with her people and simply wants to be part of the family.
Izzy does wonderfully with children, enjoys the company of other dogs, and has lived peacefully around cats with proper introductions. If a cat runs, her instinct is to chase, but she has shown no desire to harm them. She has also done well around chickens to the best of our knowledge.
Unlike the typical high-octane Malinois, Izzy is fairly easygoing. She enjoys spending time in the yard, walks nicely on leash, rides quietly in the car, and remains calm around other dogs without being reactive. She loves toys, treats, and most of all, being with her people.
Izzy’s biggest challenge is separation anxiety. She thrives when she has companionship and does not do well being left alone for long periods. Because of this, she would be happiest with someone who works from home, is retired, or simply has the ability to spend much of the day with her. She cannot be left alone in an outdoor kennel and may destroy bedding when crated, although she has never damaged the crate itself.
Being a true Belgian Malinois, Izzy is naturally protective and may bark at unfamiliar people. While she may alert you when strangers arrive, she is not aggressive. Once she realizes everything is okay, her sweet and loving personality shines through.
Unfortunately, Izzy does not show her best side in the shelter kennel. The stress of kennel life, combined with her tendency to bark at strangers, can make her seem intimidating to people walking by. Those who know her, however, know that she is a wonderful dog with so much love to give. We encourage interested adopters to ask staff to meet Izzy outside of her kennel, where her affectionate, loyal, and easygoing personality truly shines.
