Australian Shepherd-Unknown Mix Dogs For Adoption in Williamsburg, NM, USA

Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Hi there! I'm Louise. It's kind of an old-fashioned name but don't worry there is nothing old-fashioned about me! I&#3

9;m 6 months old so I'm still young for starters. I love to play and romp and love and be joyful! I'm a happy girl who loves to love. And yes of course I like to nap as old people do but again never fear because dogs and puppies are supposed to sleep a lot! I nap half the day truth be told. I nap, play, lounge in various orders. I love walks, playtimes out in the yard, snugglin, and all the good stuff puppies love to do. Back to sleeping. I'm 22 pounds and seem to be growing slower now so I might only make it to around 25 pounds fully grown (best guess!) but even though my growth rate has slowed I still don't like to miss a second of my beauty sleep. I really enjoy my rest! And I sleep like a baby overnight too and I can do it in a crate because I'm already crate trained. I have a little secret to tell you. I know, I know, secrets secrets are no fun, secrets secrets hurt someone. But I pinky swear this is a good one to know about me! Come closer. I, Louise, have a very cool special quality that helps me stay in a nice deep sleep. I'm deaf! I can't hear anything so when you wake up and get yer coffee I'll still be sound asleep. Yep that's right -- with me you get to drink a cup of coffee before taking your puppy out to pee in the morning! I'm magical I tell ya! Being deaf doesn't faze me none because it's how I was born so it's all I know. My family and I will figure out our communication styles no problemo. As you can expect, my recall sucks right now ha ha ha because I can't hear you when you call for me to come, so it's a good thing I like to stay close to people. I love people! I love dogs! I am good around cats! Kids are super awesome! I'm an all around great pint-sized pup with a stub tail. I travel beautifully in the car. And I most certainly have a penchant for love. Will you be the one to love me forever? If you want to meet me call 575-740-0643 because right now I'm in foster care in T or C with a fabulous foster family who is taking right good care of me. You'll get to meet me at my foster home. Also! My foster mama is bringing me to Jones Street Secondhand this Saturday at noon so come see me there! 303 Jones Street. P.S. Wasn't that a good secret! Love, Louise

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
