adopt this pet on the MPR website. Contact (828) 772-7753 for more information or to adopt the pet. My name is Finley, and I am a 2.5-year-old pittie mix. I have been in the same home since I was adopted when I was 4 months old. My person has had a drastic lifestyle change and can’t be home as much, so we are looking for a home where I can have more company. I am house-trained and have good house manners. I am used to having free roam of the house when my person is at work or away from the house. I love to chew on bones and toys that are safe for me and only chew on toys that are meant for me. Because I am only 2.5 years old, I need to get some exercise every day or every other day. Let’s go on a walk/hike and then cuddle on the couch. I’ll even save some space in bed for you! Maybe you can teach me how to fetch? I am very smart and I pick up on things pretty quickly. I can also be a little sensitive and quirky at times. Loud noises like fireworks don’t bother me, but sometimes if someone sneezes around me, I will go hide in the closet. LOL. I like being around people. When meeting new people, confident people make me feel comfortable and people that approach me timidly can make me uneasy and give me anxiety. I tend to warm up quickly and once you become my friend, you are always my friend. I have been around groups of 5-10 people, but have not been in larger crowds before. I am currently in doggie daycare classes to work on my social skills with other dogs. I’ve never had any issues before, but I haven’t spent a lot of time playing with other dogs, so I’m just trying to learn the ropes. If you already have a dog at home, we should definitely set up a play date to make sure we have similar play style. My ideal home would be an individual or a family. I’ve never had any issues with kids, but I would prefer older, more predictable kids in the home. I get way too excited around cats, so I should not be in a home with them. I’m a sweet, smart, loving boy, looking for my new forever home. Let’s set up a meet and greet and see how it goes!! Text my person at 828-772-7753 today! All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at petsmpravl for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
