Description

Mutt Dogs For Adoption in Brights Grove, Ontario, Canada

Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Hey guys!!!! So they call me Smudge, maybe it's the nose prints all over the back door, who knows. I have been settling in and getting to know the rules of the house, and

they say I'm doing really good. So far my favorite things are running and playing with the other dogs and sunbathing on the deck. They say I'm a big guy, but I think they are telling stories. I may get a little excited and jump up, so please no little people as I don't want to accidentally hurt them (unless dog Savvy) . I would benefit from having a fellow doggie sibling to help me feel comfortable and show me the ropes. If you want to know more, please call my people—they will tell you how amazing I am Located in Belleville Ideal Home: A home with a fenced yard would be ideal since I'm active and athletic (I can clear an extra-tall baby gate when I really want to!). Apartment or condo living may not be the best fit, as I can be quite vocal when confined to a room. ‍‍‍ Family Match: Best with older kids unless dog savvy due to my playful, bouncy nature. Not ideal for seniors as I can get excited and jump around. Other Pets: A dog sibling is preferred! I love making friends and enjoy having a canine companion. I play well with other dogs and have shown no prey drive. ⚡ Energy Level: Active family preferred. I love fetch, chasing dog friends, sticks, logs, and outdoor adventures. ️ Favorite Things: Playing, sunbathing, couch snuggles, tennis balls, and spending time with my people and dog buddies. Training: Knows sit, stay, and down, and is eager to please. Currently working on crate training and continuing to learn household routines. He's had only one accident in foster care, likely related to stress from the transition. Leash Skills: Friendly with everyone and wants to say hello, so he can pull on leash. Home Alone: Still settling into foster care, so we're learning what he's like when left loose in the house. He does enjoy a bit of counter surfing if given the opportunity! ❤️ Personality: A happy, affectionate, goofy guy who doesn't quite realize how big he is. Loyal, loving, and ready to be someone's best friend!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
